This one is for all the ladies out there!

Join us for a weekend of girl time at the crag! Come to PATC-MS's women's only weekend trip to the Gunks, the Yosemite of the East!

A chance to meet other female climbers and hop on to some fun multi-pitch trad climbs... the Gunks has a wonderful array of fantastic climbs at all climbing levels.

The club will help coordinate transportation and pay for camping for Saturday and check out Monday morning at the AAC Campground!

This is not a guided event.  We will try out best to pair up followers with leaders, but do not expect it. There are a few places to top-rope as well, but it is primarily a multi-pitch trad climbing area. The Shawangunks still has other great things to offer like hiking and a lot of fantastic bouldering! Hopefully we have enough leaders who will be joining and can take up one or two followers.  Leaders will have priority during sign-up.

There will be an outdoors bouldering clinic Sunday morning... the Carriage Road is littered with awesome bouldering at all levels and is the perfect place for this clinic.

We will be having a Saturday night dinner meetup at the campgrounds pavilion. Bring your own dinner (either cook, or take a short drive into town and pick up something from on of the many restaurants), drinks, and whatnot.

The club has reserved 4 campsites. Each campsite can hold 2 two-person small tents and 1 one-person with max 4 people per campsite. Please share tents.

The AAC campground has a covered pavilion suitable for stove cooking, fire ring, drinking water, and coin operated shower. Scattered around the campgrounds are bathrooms, running water, and a few faucets for water. Campsites have picnic tables suitable for stove cooking, but no open fires are allowed, except at the fire ring near the pavilion. If you need supplies there is a climbing shop (https://www.rockandsnow.com/store/) and a ShopRite in town.

The Shawangunks (aka the Gunks), New Paltz, NY.  It's about a 6 hour drive from the DC area.

Please note that the Gunks is a FEE AREA managed by the Mohonk Preserve. The fee is $17/day or purchase an annual membership for $95 (which works out to 6 days of climbing to pay for it). Discounts for households.

Friday, May 26 - Monday, May 29

Please note your camping plans in the spreadsheet that you will get a link to when you register.

Type of climbing:

Loads of trad climbing, including a nearly inexhaustible amount of great easy to moderate climbs. There is also plenty of bouldering and some good areas to set up top-ropes, but expect to walk more for these than you would at Carderock. Most of the routes are one to three pitches with well maintained bolts or anchors nearby as obvious descent points. Rock is very solid, characterized by horizontal cracks, easy roofs even on moderate climbs.

The main cliffs are the Trapps. The traditional grey Dick WIlliams guidebook is sold at the climbing store nearby, although the Gunks App (iPhone and Android) is also gaining popularity, and includes a GPS feature for finding routes.

The cliffs, especially at the top, feature full bars of LTE reception for most people, but the campsite and town do not. Load your map directions ahead of time.
