Dave Di Paolo has been arrested in connection with Geoff's death. The investigation continues by US Park Police and soon the US Attorney's office in Greenbelt. No one else is connected with the official investigation and you aren't obliged to talk to them.

Thank you for the post elsewhere about this incident.  We all feared it was another climbing accident, but it seems like it was a physical attack.  While very shocking and sad, I am glad to hear that it appears not to be a climbing accident.

    Hi All,

I've been away from DC for a few years now, but this story still hits home. I would like to offer my condolences to Geoff's family and friends who are dealing with this.

I am disturbed, though, by reports in the press that David DiPaolo has been charged only with manslaughter. Doesn't the reported argument in the parking lot, and the presence of a hammer at the base of the climb, indicate premeditation? Who climbs with a CLAW hammer? Who climbs with any kind of hammer at CARDEROCK? I think we need to be asking these questions.
