Slide Show by Rock Climber Madaleine Sorkin
Professional Rock Climber Madaleine Sorkin will present a show on her hard free climbs in Yosemite Valley California and Canada.  A recent article in Rock and Ice magazine says that she stands close to the cutting edge of gnarly, difficult, traditional free climbs.  She has climbed 5.13b and free climbed some of North American's stoutest big wall and alpine rock climbs, including:
  • Free Rider (VI 5.12d, 37 pitches) in Yosemite Valley [first female team free ascent]
  • The West Face of the Leaning Tower (VI 5.13a) in Yosemite Valley
  • The Regular Route on Half Dome (VI 5.12) in Yosemite Valley
  • Moonlight Buttress in Zion (V 5.12+), (which she also did in a day, with just one fall)
  • The Original Route (FA 1963, VI 5.12R), for which she did the FFA with Lorna Illingsworth and Emily Stifler

She climbed Proboscis in the Cirque of the Unclimbables in the Logan Mountains, Northwest Territories, Canada  with support from the American Alpine Club in 2010. Madaleine is 28, lives in Boulder Colorado and is from the DC area.  See more at  http://www.lizzyscully.com/madaleine.htm.
