I am looking for a small group of 4 to 8. Anything over 4 and I would need to recruit another volunteer. I am thinking the New because they have the most awesome pure crack climbs on the East Coast and I just like climbing there. But if you think there is an argument for climbing somewhere else let me know. I wanted to get a feel for want people would be looking for in a crack climbing workshop? mock leads? top roping to practice techniques? easier climbing like 5.8 or easy 9 practice 5.10 handcracks because if you can do these a lot of cracks are do able? Is the New where people would want to go? Some of these could be done at GF as others have mentioned and not make it a weekend trip? A couple of ideas Saturday - top rope Jaws 5.9 and Zag 5.8 at the bridge on Saturday. Mock lead if desired or TR, your choice. Discuss techniques but climbing is the best teacher. No guarantee we get these as they are very popular. Other routes are available and I will have a couple of 2nd choices. Sunday - Climb at Orchard Wall TR/Mock lead Springboard 5.10a and Triple Treat 5.10a both awesome climbs and classic cracks. Both are strenuous and easily protectable. Alternate climb if available would be to do an easy crack lead like Fantasy 5.8 or New Yosemite 5.9. Both are reasonable and well protected. If you feel comfortable leading trad then these would be good intro lead cracks. I would not recommend mock/ TR as these are classic and you would want to do them in the best style. Let me know what you the club want to do and I will post what I think will fit the group decision. Contact me by email if you want to discuss in more detail. Rick Dotson I will update as the date approaches with outline, camping and other info.
